Why use the professionals for my translation?

The following stories may or may not be true, but they do emphasise how much time and consideration has to be taken when dealing with languages!

When a major pen manufacturer marketed a ballpoint pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to have read, 'It won't leak in your pocket and embarrass you.'  They thought that the word 'embarazar' (to impregnate) meant 'to embarrass', so the ad read: 'It won't leak in your pocket and make you pregnant.'

A large American brewers used the slogan  'Turn it loose' in Spanish which was read as 'Suffer from diarrhoea.'

One famous company introduced the 'Mist Stick' curling iron into Germany.  Obviously not too many people had a use for a 'manure stick'.

An American T-shirt maker in Miami printed shirts for the Spanish market which promoted the Pope's visit.  Instead of, 'I saw the Pope' (el Papa), the shirts read, 'I saw the potato' (la papa).

These excerpts were forwarded to us, so the source is unknown.  The names of the companies involved have been removed.

The upload form

Using our quote forms allows you to enter your contact details and preferences regarding your assignment.  The upload form appears once you have submitted your request.

Clicking on the Browse... button brings up a dialogue box through which you can locate the file on your computer.

Internet Explorer (version 3.02 or above) users can select the file and click on Open.

If you are using Netscape Navigator (version 2 or above), make sure that All Files (*.*) appears in the Files of type: box.  Select your file(s) and click on Open.

Once you have selected your file(s), its location appears in the text box.  Click on Upload.

You may have to wait a while until the file(s) have finished uploading.  A confirmation message will eventually appear showing the files uploaded.

To upload more than 4 files just repeat the process.

We can only accept files which are 1MB or smaller through the Web site.  To speed up sending your file or if your file is too big, you can always compress it with WinZip or StuffIt.
