In 1983 a group of seven freelance translators set up the first translation agency in Sheffield - TransAction Cooperative Limited.  Meeting the translation and interpreting needs of local businesses was the main aim of the cooperative.

From modest beginnings in a small office equipped with the most basic of equipment - a red telephone and a manual typewriter - the number of freelancers working with TransAction grew.  The fax machine superceded the postal system and was in turn toppled by the modem - the bane of many freelancers working lives!

The irresistible pull of email and the Internet saw the launch of TransAction's first Web site in early 1998 and in April 1999, the name changed to TransAction Translators Limited.
