Along with movistar and vivo, O2 is one of the Telefónica brands who collectively have over 315 million customers in 24 countries. They have been using TransAction for mostly Spanish to English translation assignments since O2’s takeover by Telefónica over 7 years ago.

David Gogerly, International Assignments Manager at Telefónica needed the translation so that the program could be communicated within Telefónica in both Spanish and English simultaneously: “I always come back to TransAction as I know they will do a good job. They always come back to me really quickly and I can rely on their translations being correct first time”.

Celebrating 30 years in October, TransAction covers all European languages, as well as Asian and Oriental languages and is headed by Maryline Tergella and Daniel Collis, two languages graduates with IT skills and years of experience in translation project management.

"Since the days of just a telephone and fax machine, the industry has certainly changed over the years, mostly due to technology. With the currently weak Pound helping significantly, we compete at an international level and with e-mail we communicate with translators and clients a lot more easily, many of them being based outside the UK. We are also holding up against local competition and the third economic downturn in our history: when we first set up in 1983 as TransAction Cooperative Limited, I had no idea I would still be in this office nearly 30 years later after originally coming to Sheffield to be a French assistant at Tapton School," said Ms Tergella, now a Sheffielder but originally from Le Mans in La Sarthe.

"We have helped clients secure millions of pounds of business abroad through translated contracts, tenders and general correspondence. Private individuals come to us to have their official documents translated so they can marry abroad or come to work in the UK for the NHS for example. We also support Languages Sheffield, an organisation that helps local communities set up and run their own language schools, as well as promote the use of languages by speakers of all ages throughout British society. We have often had language pupils visit from local schools through Global Entrepreneur Week or Business Language Champions and hope we have helped inspire them to continue with languages in some way or other post-GCSE."

The agency enjoys an international reputation, built up by supplying a distinguished client list with translation and other language services. These include on a local level, Swann-Morton, Sarclad, VAI Industries, New Era Aquaculture, Ancon, Gripple, SIG, John Bruce UK Ltd, HSBC and popular artist Pete McKee. On a wider scale, regular assignments for leading companies such as AarhusKarlshamn UK Ltd, G4S, Safetykleen Group Services Ltd, Pandrol UK, Winbro Group Technologies Ltd, WHSmith, Aubert & Duval (France & UK), the bilstein group (Germany), Digital Control Inc (USA), Sutton Tools Europe (The Netherlands & Australia) amongst many others.

TransAction is a member of the Association of Translation Companies, The Sheffield Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Federation of Small Businesses.
